Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation

The primary goal is to provide a secure, regulated, and highly efficient digital settlement layer for the Japanese economy. This includes reducing cross-border payment costs by up to 80% and enabling 24/7 instant settlement for tokenized assets.

Participation is currently focused on corporate and institutional clients. Users can participate by adopting SMBC's digital banking services, engaging with tokenized real-world asset platforms (like real estate tokens on Progmat), or using the stablecoin for business-to-business transactions once live in 2027.

Unlike private stablecoins like USDT, SMBC’s token is issued within the Japanese banking legal framework, offering superior regulatory certainty, legal segregation of assets, and direct integration with the nation's traditional financial infrastructure.

Yes. SMBC uses enterprise-grade security through Fireblocks, a leader in digital asset custody. The project also undergoes rigorous audits by Japanese financial regulators (FSA) and utilizes the robust Avalanche blockchain technology.

The primary risks are regulatory shifts and technical vulnerabilities in the underlying smart contracts. However, these are managed through multi-layer security audits, strict compliance with the Japanese Payment Services Act, and the use of segregated trust structures to protect funds.
